A Custom Wedding Design
This client needed a large print to display at a wedding reception. They didn’t have a direction for the style or theme. For the first proof, I got inspired by the simple white t-shirt and beautiful nature in the background. I used a clean white background and paired it with crisp clean lines in the text to give it a contemporary feel. I added line art to mirror the tree in the background to accent the overall design. The second option isolated the image to give a bit more airy feel. With the third option, I opted to go with more color and a higher contrast with the design. The white in the t-shirt compliments the clean white text of the couple’s name. Since the couple is in less formal wear, I added a distress texture to the image that makes it look like an cyanotype print.
After the first proof, the client had settled on a theme for the design—New Years Eve. There were a few requests: a champaign bottle, glasses, and only the “Celebrating” text and the event date. My first thoughts were of a night sky filled with flitter and fireworks. In the fourth proof, I integrated a few stars and a dark background to set the mid-night scene. I added the glitter and streamers, in addition to the required glasses and bottle of Champaign, to enhance the party mood. Finally, I made the decision to add the names again to utilize the empty negative space on the bottom left corner. Altogether, these elements give a lively layered design that sets the mood of a winter-night celebration.
